Sensei Kazuhiro Sawada was born on February 25, 1952 in Hokkaido, an island off northern Japan. He began practising karate as a teenager at secondary school, later joiningthe famous karate club at the University of Taisho. Sawada graduated four years later after a tough training with sensei Iida Noriqhiko and sensei Hayakawa Norimasa. He dedicated himself enormously to karate, eventually captaining the University of Taisho team, which won Japan's university championship on three occasions. Sensei Sawada also won the university championship for the Kanto region and twice reached the final of Japan’s university championship (all styles). After graduation, Sawada was sent to Belgium by the JKA to assist shihan Satoshi Miyazaki. In September 1984 he returned to Japan for ten years.

Following the untimely death of Miyazaki in 1993, the Belgian Karate Federation invited sensei Sawada to teach in Belgium as national instructor. This enthusiast, who has dedicated his life to karate, has subsequently continued to refine and pass on his art with all the skill, openness, kindness and simplicity that characterise him.
